In this week, Dr. Kahol introduced the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and discussed the definition, goal, evaluation of HCI design from many examples in our daily life. The Human-Computer Interaction, from my understanding, actually is the way that people can work with computer, to use computer, and to communicate with computer. From the HCI, people can tell computers what we want, and get the useful information from computer response.
The first generation of HCI, in my experience, is the DOS system, which is based on the text environment. The user has to input each text command to tell computer what to do, and get the boring text response on screen. The tools for DOS is only text, no graphic, no music, and not mention to video or animation. After the Windows system, the graphic HCI became the mainstream of HCI. With the development of media technology and network, multi media and web application gradually dominate the HCI world, and more easy learning and usable HCI will become the future developing direction.
From the design of HCI, with the development of computer and information technology, how to efficiently, reliable, usable to communicate between computer and people has already been become a specific field in informatics technology. Because the HCI involve the communication between parts, the computer and human being, so the HCI design can be mainly divided into two sections. One is to figure out what people what, and how to better, faster, accurately satisfy people. This section focus more on the psychology, communication, education, and marketing analysis. The other section, from technology perspective, should mainly focus on how to development new informatics technology to fulfill the requirement of people, and provide more efficient and reliable HCI system.
As respect to the evaluation of HCI from my view, the simple and easy learning HCI is the first standard for me. Then secondly, the efficient and fast communication with computer is what I care about. At least, are the face of HCI and the universality.
