I missed this lecture too as I had to go to the health center for eye treatment. So, in the next class when everybody was talking about ontology and how bizarre the lecture was, I could not participate in the discussion. Then I went through the audio recording and got confused like the rest of the class! It is indeed a new topic for me and had to go through the lecture again and again to comprehend the idea. Data management is an important thing, especially in the medical world where it is involved with huge amount of literature and references. UMLS seems to be very organized tools to manage vocabularies and taxonomies in an efficient manner.
This lecture is very useful to me as I came to BMI with Electrical Engineering background and now gotta get used to lots of new medical terminologies. The other blogs and links were worth reading. Especially Dr. Kahol’s link was extremely helpful to understand the idea.
