Review and confusion about clinical intervention

Content: As I missed couple of classes from the 1st week, went thru the lecture slides first. From the 1st lecture I can see the versatility of computer use in medicine. All the points pretty understandable except I had problem with the last one- “computer as clinical interventions”. Could anybody please briefly explain this particular use of computer in medicine?

The second lecture gives a very good idea about EAV. As EMR is the next big thing, knowledge of database modeling in an efficient way is very useful.

In the 3rd lecture, Dr. Greenes explained the methods of research in the field of biomedical informatics. At the beginning of the PhD carrier, this knowledge is very helpful to me. BMI is all applied research and that’s why it needs people with different expertise.

  1. An intervention is basically some action taken to hinder or alter some behavior of an entity. A health intervention is an action taken to promote good health behavior (example exercising) or prevent bad health behaviors (example smoking). Can computers be used to aid in clinical interventions? Think about wii fit. That is getting youngsters to take part in active games. Can you add other examples?

Note - the introduction slides provided were not used by Dr Kahol in the first lecture.
