I believe Dr.Parkers lecture on research methods on healthcare IT made a lot of sense for me as I saw this lecture with an application perspective of what I have learned so far in BMI. Starting from the concepts of HL7 to standards to relational databases and warehousing to evidence based approaches. The case study of Intermountain Health care system lays a foundation stone to tackle the challenges in integration of Information technology in Heath care to improve the quality of care delivery, cost savings and developement of clinical Decision support system. For me the most intersting part was learning about the architecture of Data Integaration. The clinical data coming to central data repository where the data is normalized and standardized and integrated using integration engine and data dictionary. Here HL7 and RIM play the key role. The other important factor being the quick acess and retrieval of clinical information.
In all the Intermountain heakth care and Banner provide an example of better integartion of IT in health care as every health care provider have to go through this challenge in coming years.
