Lecture 19

I missed this class (and all of you, of course), but I'm pleased that I did attend Dr. Kahol's seminar on his work, earlier in the semester. I am in awe of the developments in this area, and have great appreciation for the computer scientists and bioengineers in this program.

Retrospectively, I think Resusci Anne takes us near the beginning of simulation innovation. She was the mannequin created to teach CPR to millions. Modeled after a woman who drowned in the Seine River in the 1880's, this early simulator was created in the 1960's.  She is commonly recognized by any trained medical person in this country, and perhaps world-wide. As I remember Anne and her contributions, and look at the leaps and bounds taken by such facilities as the Banner Sim Center, I am reminded that great contributions can be made with basic tools. Dr. Kahol proved that with his adaptation of the Wi controller to teach and enhance laproscopic surgery.
