Content: Due to unavoidable reason, I missed this week’s lecture. So, I had to entirely dependent on the slides and other student’s blogs to understand the context of the lecture. The blogs seem extremely useful as they represent individual’s understanding to the lecture from their own point of view.
The lecture “Research Methods in Healthcare IT” describes the possible fields where health informatics could be applied. It started with one example of healthcare IT – “Intermountain Healthcare (IHC)”. It is an integrated health network based developed in Salt Lake City, Utah. The lecture included the success story of the system. It also explains the architecture of IHC. The system receives data from different sources and then it organizes data using “central data repository” or “enterprise data warehouse” to create the useful healthcare knowledge. Finally the lecture concludes with very successful outcome story of the system.
